Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!
As usual once things calm down and you have a warm batch of chocolate chip cookies coming out of the oven, you realize that it really wasn't that bad. But for a few hours there It felt like it was one of those days when things just don't go the way you had in mind.
I woke up at 6:00 this morning excited and ready to RUN! I was pretty excited to see what time I could pull off after all the running I have been doing the past few weeks. Chase and my boys were coming to cheer me on and I had our bag of chocolate chips waiting in the cupboard for our post race celebration! I thought for sure it was going to be a great day!
I headed out the door! The race began! After my first few steps I could tell that the race was not going to go as planned. My legs felt stiff and heavy and I had 6 miles to go. Not good, but the good news was that I knew the boys would be at the mile marker so I was excited about that! I ran by, gave them high fives and they cheered me on! That was fun! When I ran the Boston I was in so much pain that when I ran by them it wasn't the fun experience that I had hoped for so it was exciting to me to get to enjoy the moment!
Well, my legs never got into a rhythm and although I was frustrated I was ok with just keeping a steady pace. I knew that If I could just keep it till mile 5 I would see my family again and be able to kick it that last mile. It got me through mile 3-4 but when I got to mile 5 and I didn't see the boys I thought something might be wrong. Then I thought that maybe Chase changed his mind and went to the finish line. When they were not at the finish line I got a little worried but headed straight to the spot that he said he would meet me after the race. He wasn't there. I ran over to 87th where he said he was originally going to be and I knew something was wrong. But I didn't have my cell phone so I though I better just stay put where he told me to meet him.
45 minutes later a friend from our ward came and met me at the cafe near the finish line with Chase on the phone. I got on the phone and Chase told me that they were in the emergency room with Jackson and that he broke his arm. He was climbing a tree as they were waiting for me to come around by mile 5, he had climbed so high that when Chase looked over he couldn't see him because he was up in all the leaves. Chase told him to get down and then the branch broke. Terrible, Horrible, No Good!
I bombed my race and Jackson is in the hospital with a broken arm. I was a little discouraged! But...good news, I recovered, Jackson is home and well, and lessons have been learned!!! And we have this awesome picture to look back on and laugh about! So, on those days that remind you of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad, Day...remember that there are always lessons to be learned and a memory to look back on!
What a stud! I love this little guy!
